We are proud to share that we’ve completed our second verified carbon footprint as part of our ongoing journey towards carbon neutrality, our results are on display in Systematic HQ, as a visible reminder of our progress. This step is key in our bold mission to achieve Verified Carbon Neutral status in 2025.
We’ve been measuring and managing many of our emissions for 15 years, yet we can now say that we’re calculating and capturing our direct and indirect Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, Scopes 1, 2 and 3, in a Carbon Footprint Report that follows GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard methodology.
As a responsible business, we’ve always set high standards, and reaching our half-century trading milestone with verified carbon-neutral status has been a long-standing ambition. It was 2023 when we took our sustainability goals to the next level, with specialist advice from carbon consultancy Auditel. This collaboration reflects our commitment to transparently reducing and reporting our carbon footprint, with the ultimate objective of achieving Net Zero emissions.
Our second verified carbon footprint shows a 45% reduction compared to the first. By identifying carbon hotspots, we’ve been able to take targeted actions to reduce our impact.
Key carbon reduction strategies:
Julie Adams, Carbon Accountant at Auditel, shared her thoughts:
“Systematic is working on a formal, science-based reduction plan to meet Net Zero commitments. We’ve already completed a workshop to formalize the process. Some exciting projects are now in planning, including further energy-saving initiatives, technology implementation, supply chain improvements, and enhancements to business travel options.”
For years, we’ve focused on minimising, managing, and measuring our carbon footprint. Our next big target is to become one of the first businesses in the UK audited against ISO 14068, the international standard for carbon neutrality.
We may be a small SME outside the traditional ‘green’ sector, but we believe our efforts can help set an example for others. Most businesses in the UK are SMEs, so it’s important to show how small stones can create larger ripples. When the wider business community actively addresses the climate emergency, meaningful change is possible.
If we can serve as a benchmark, a source of information, or even just a little inspiration to help others progress in their carbon journey, we’ve succeeded. We truly believe that profitable, sustainable growth can align with responsible action on the climate emergency.
