Nostalgising anyone?

An odd term yet bear with us – we’re talking about the power of nostalgia and specifically using it to command attention for your business. Nostalgia marketing if you prefer.

Far from being ‘old hat,’ concepts and creations from the past elicit fond memories and offer a sense of escapism. Provoking an emotional response is a platform for attention and engagement. The theme may be a TV show, music video, advert, or even something as simple as an icon or font.

Our retro gaming campaign

Our marketing campaign centred around a sleek, high-quality powerbank. As Systematic wanted to reach out to new contacts through a marketing campaign, oodle adopted a visual style reminiscent of retro gaming. Whilst Systematic had a multigenerational audience in mind, which comes with differences in cultural references, strong concepts can engage diverse groups, as YouTube and TikTok help to bridge the years. Older audiences experienced the original era of gaming and younger audiences responded to the retro aesthetic. oodle designed a custom sleeve that reflected the concept and echoed the visual language of classic video games, using vibrant colours, 8-bit graphics and playful iconography. To make our mailer stand out even more, we included a two-sided postcard. The postcard was designed to be kept, shared, and talked about – a tangible piece of our retro campaign that could sit on a desk or a pinboard, constantly reminding our audience of the value we offer.

To extend the retro theme beyond the physical world, we created a series of short animations. These were shared through email marketing and social media channels, creating a dynamic, interactive layer to our campaign.

 

This retro gaming theme wasn’t just a creative choice – it was a strategic one. It helped us connect with our audience in a meaningful way, driving engagement and increase our brand visibility. It was a reminder that sometimes, looking back can be the best way to move forward!
