Company reports often get a bad reputation. They’re known for being dry, packed with dense data and jargon that is hard to understand. So, when Lincolnshire Housing Partnership (LHP) approached oodle, we saw an opportunity to change that narrative.
LHP has a very commendable, charitable mission. They manage nearly 12,500 affordable rental and shared ownership homes across the east coast of Lincolnshire, whilst supporting these communities with a broad range of services. Their diverse stakeholders deserved an annual report that was also dynamic and engaging. Our design agency oodle took up the challenge.
The result? A company report that not only informs but captivates – both as a PDF document and an animation.
LHP, like many forward-thinking organisations, wanted to break away from a traditional report. They needed a design that would not only present critical data in a clear and accessible way, but also engage their readers and reflect LHP’s transparency and vision. The challenge lay in presenting this information without overwhelming the audience.
We started by diving into LHP’s data, which we transformed into figures, charts and infographics. This year’s report also included a new key feature: Tenant Satisfaction Measures (TSMs). Introduced by the Regulator of Social Housing, these measures provide tenants with a transparent view of how well their landlord is performing and are essential performance indicators for LHP. To make the TSMs visually engaging and easy to interpret, we used simple yet effective iconography. This approach let tenants and stakeholders understand the key insights, making the data more accessible. The feedback from these measures is vital not only for LHP’s reputation but also for identifying areas of improvement, reinforcing their commitment to continuous growth.
In addition to data visualisation, we incorporated authentic photography provided by LHP. This made the report more personal, authentic and connected to the community it serves. Ultimately, the design was not just about presenting information – it was about sharing LHP’s evolving story.
But we didn’t stop there. Together, LHP and oodle took the report to the next level by animating key elements. Why animation? Because a static report, even when beautifully designed, can still be a bit… static. Animation adds a layer of dynamism that draws people in and makes the content even more memorable.
The animation we created acted as both a teaser and an invitation. It highlighted the most important aspects of the report, pulling viewers in to explore further. Those dynamic visuals didn’t just catch the eye – they helped break down complex data, making it simpler and more engaging. Of course, we included a strong call-to-action in the animation, guiding viewers to download the full report.
What’s more, the animation was portable. It could be used on LHP’s website, shared across social media, and even displayed at events or exhibitions. What was once just an annual report is now a vibrant, shareable piece of content that LHP can reuse.
